Think of HTDS as covering the basics of what an American should but possibly doesn't know (or has forgotten) about history. The episodes are roughly one hour, story-driven, and irreverently educational. Each episode stands on its own as a story, but taken together, they will also walk you through a survey of US history that starts with the Revolution and will (eventually) go right up to the present. It's everything you need and want to know. And it's a damn good time.

About HTDS

Your Professor: Greg Jackson

Professor Greg Jackson is best known as the creator, host, and head writer of the US history podcast, History That Doesn't Suck. He has also appeared on History Channel documentaries, other major history podcasts, radio, and served as a historical consultant for the podcast, American Elections: Wicked Game.

Greg is an Associate Professor & Senior Fellow at the Center for National Security Studies and Fellow of Integrated Studies at Utah Valley University, where he teaches courses in National Security Studies and Integrated Studies. He was a Burton Scholar and earned his Ph.D. in History from the University of Utah. Greg also holds an M.A. in French Studies and B.A. in History from Brigham Young University.

The Team

Kelsi Dynes: Director of Operations

Kelsi handles all the little day-to-day fires that come with running a podcast. She received her B.A. in Integrated Studies from UVU in 2018 with emphases in History and Classical Studies. Her first historical love was Ancient Egypt, followed closely by Ancient Rome, which has remained the focus of her fascination since childhood. But, upon discovering HTDS, she realized that maybe American History was (almost) as interesting as Ancient Rome, though she still dives into the Classical world in her extremely limited free time.

Her life is full of neverending hilarity thanks to her little kids who keep her on her toes and also exhaust her at the same time, fantastic friends that make for excellent Target run buddies and game night participants, and an extremely supportive and understanding husband who listens to all her historical rants and raves with endless patience and focus.

Will King: Senior Researcher/Writer

Will King is a born and bred native of Springville, Utah. He’s long been plagued with incurable nerdiness that shows itself in the form of playing brass instruments, reading comic books, and having more opinions than necessary about Star Trek: Voyager. He graduated with a degree in History from Brigham Young University in 2016 with an emphasis in the American West, and then went to Utah Valley University to pursue a second useless degree, this time in Film with an emphasis in Screenwriting.

In his free time when he’s not diving into the depths of the surrounding libraries looking for sources, he catalogs his movie and music collection, writes and directs short films and documentaries, and does frame-by-frame analyses of bad movies. He is passionate about Native American, Irish, and Rock and Roll history, and has an unhealthy obsession with “Weird Al” Yankovic.
